Day 100! This is a day for thankfulness and praise for sure. It is such a milestone to pass in this bone marrow transplant process. We can be most thankful for what did not happen, such as infections or rejection. The worst cases usually present in the first 100 days, so we are so glad that is behind us. There is a road to go yet, I am still struggling with eating and drinking enough, and have had a bit of trouble with the creatinine level in my blood being too high, which would result in kidney issues. We are getting it under control with IV fluids.
The goal now is to start weaning me from all of the meds that I am taking and remove the Hickman port from my chest. I am able to go out in public a little more now.
This last stretch has felt long, and sometimes discouraging, but the same promises that we held on to during the critical transplant time are now encouraging us to keep moving forward day by day. So many of you are still encouraging with texts, cards, visits, meals, and babysitting , we thank you so, it really helps. God has chosen this path for us and we just pray that we can be a testimony to His faithfulness.
Sandy,
ReplyDeleteWe think about your family all the time. The big Postma family across the street that enjoys friends, family and entertaining. And oh the many weddings!
We have been so busy with many things since we moved here from Mississauga 2 years ago now and are truly sorry that we have been unable to get together to meet both you and Jeff formally!
Tony noticed that he hadn't see you driving in and out with your white car. We found your blog tonight on the internet and are inspired by your courage, candor and sensitivity.
Dear Lord, we are grateful that you haven't taken Sandy from us.
Sandy, I was impressed with your honesty, sensitivity, kindness and sensibility the one and only time that we met face to face when you asked to borrow the bench for some wedding photos.
I couldn't ask for a nicer neighbor and friend. A thoughtful friend who reached out in sending us Christmas cards of personal photos of your lovely family even though we never met.
Let us extend a personal invitation when you are feeling better and to sit for a personal chat. We would love that!
I wanted to get together with you a few months ago, but was sick with a bad cold, flu. Something I never get! 20 years of no colds or flu, and we go to Cuba in January and both come back with a
bad flu, cough.
We didn't know you were so ill.
We are truly sorry that you have had to undergo chemo and a bone marrow transplant.
But, we are blessed that you are still here and on the mend!
Dear Sandy, may God bless you and your family! All life is precious and each moment is a godsend and a miracle. Sometimes we get caught up in our own webs and forget what is truly important.
Get well soon so that you can continue to inspire everyone around you with your energy and kind heart.
There is no keeping Sandy Postma down! Gather your strength, for you are on this earth for a very important reason!
We will reach out to be updated on your progress.
Your neighbors Sylvia and Tony.
